Shih Tzus - Pictures - Breed Clubs
Shih Tzus are a wonderful breed that has acquired many fanciers who stand guard over the welfare of the breed. The first breed club appeared in 1963. The American Shih Tzu Club was established by a group of individuals who took much interest in the breed and were eager to take care of it.
Public education is one of the basic activities in which the club is involved. It publishes a lot of materials on the breed. Articles, books, and videos allow Shih Tzu owners and breeders to learn more about the breed and how to care for it. These materials are free for club members. Non-members can get them by the means of subscription. The club is also the advocate of responsible breeding. It guides breeders in their activities and informs them on some health issues.
The American Shih Tzu Club promotes the breed by the means of organizing shows. It has a number of regional breed clubs that are associated with it. Most of them are involved in rescue work. Abandoned dogs are rescued and re-homed. The American Shih Tzu Club provides a list of rescue contacts. Rescue officers educate prospective owners on the issue of owning Shih Tzus.
